Department administration in Crimea issues threats
In connection with the holding of May holidays in the institutions of the administration of the State Department of Ukraine for Execution of Sentences in the AR of Crimea, from 30.04 to 10.05.2011, in accordance with the guidelines of executive orders and instructions, an enhanced variant of duty performance called “SHIELD” is currently being carried out.
Thus, additional force units of the State Department were involved at the Simferopol pre-trial detention centre for the duration of the holidays, and they will stay in the institution until further notice.
Regional mass media outlets that publish false information regarding the Simferopol pre-trial detention centre, based only on anonymous calls from relatives of those detained, bear personal responsibility for the dissemination of unverified facts.

The press release from the department’s administration in Crimea leaves one uneasy. And because it does not provide explanations for the situation—who would believe that special units are ALWAYS introduced to institutions during holidays? It is not explained whether units were introduced in institutions other than the SIZO, or how many armed people were introduced. For how long? Has the SIZO management really been changed?
In such a situation, one is left to pay attention to both rumours and reports that cannot yet be verified. But disseminating them, for lack of sufficient information from those state structures that possess it, is acceptable given the public importance of this information. But threats for disseminating—in such a situation!—information contain signs of a violation of the law.
