A Mother and Child House has been opened in the correctional colony
A Mother and Child House has been opened in Chernihiv Colony No. 44.
As a UNIAN correspondent reports, the public relations department of the city council reported that this event was the result of the implementation of the joint Ukrainian-Swiss project “Women and mothers with children in detention”, which was launched in the correctional institution three years ago.
According to the Deputy Head of the Administration of the Department for the Execution of Sentences in the Chernihiv region, Oleksandr HUZHVA, as a result of the reconstruction of the existing Children’s House, 11 comfortable rooms were fitted out where imprisoned mothers will live together with their children. Today, there are 27 children in the colony. The toddlers will be kept here until the age of three.
Funds for the reconstruction of the premises (about 3 million UAH) were allocated by the International Charitable Foundation “Swiss Cooperation Office in Ukraine”.
In the Chernihiv colony, a project aimed at organising the cohabitation of mothers and children has been implemented for the first time in Ukraine, the city council noted.
