Police detained a repeat offender who dismantled a wall in a pre-trial detention centre
Police officers detained a dangerous repeat offender, Stepan RADCHENKO, who escaped from the Odessa pre-trial detention centre on the morning of 4 February.
This was reported to UNIAN by the head of the Centre for Public Relations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Odessa region, Olga BOHACHENKO.
“The 34-year-old criminal, sentenced to life imprisonment, was at large for only 12 hours,” added O. BOHACHENKO.
She specified that S. RADCHENKO was detained in a building on Dalnytska Street.
The prisoner S. RADCHENKO, together with another convict, managed early this morning to dismantle the window sill of the cell, remove a brick and the protective security bars, and then penetrate the restricted area of the institution. However, they were spotted by a guard in the tower – one of the prisoners was detained, but S. RADCHENKO, having overcome the main fence in the area of the checkpoint, managed to escape from custody.
Employees of the central apparatus of the State Department for the Execution of Sentences arrived in Odessa and are conducting an internal investigation into the circumstances of the escape from the pre-trial detention centre.
