The Minister of Justice has spoken about prison medicine reform
'We must draw systematic, truly global, and significant conclusions about how, and how effectively, the medical service and a number of other services are organised, which by definition must be provided to people who have ended up in places of deprivation of liberty against their will,' stated Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov.
The Ministry of Justice intends to draw conclusions in connection with the death of lawyer Sergey Magnitsky in the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention centre, reports Interfax.
'We must draw systematic, truly global, and significant conclusions about how, and how effectively, the medical service and a number of other services are organised, which by definition must be provided to people who have ended up in places of deprivation of liberty against their will,' stated Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov, reports Newsru.
The Minister also believes that 'the issue of studying alternative approaches to medical care for the so-called special contingent, including in some forms of outsourcing—at the expense of civil medicine—requires special attention.' In the ministry, Konovalov reported, an inspection of the circumstances of Magnitsky's death was carried out, and the results of the inspection have been passed to investigative bodies in connection with the initiation of a criminal case.
