Horodyshche, Kharkiv, and then everywhere?
According to information requiring confirmation, on 27 May, fighters in ‘masks’ carried out beatings in at least 20 cells at the Kharkiv pre-trial detention centre, and promised more. There are reports that, allegedly, the detention centre has been declaring a hunger strike since 28 May. Prisoners are being provoked and beaten without cause.
A journalist from a newspaper contacted the Department’s administration in the Kharkiv region. According to the journalist, the deputy head of the administration denies the fact of the beatings (‘Nobody was beaten’), but does not deny that a search was conducted on 27 May. This report on events in Kharkiv, combined with information about events in the Rivne region, gives reason to assume that the department is carrying out some kind of large-scale operation aimed at intimidating prisoners.
