South-Eastern Interregional Office for the Execution of Criminal Sentences of the Ministry of Justice
The South-Eastern Interregional Office for the Execution of Criminal Sentences of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine is a territorial body of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine that ensures the implementation of state policy regarding the execution of criminal sentences, pre-trial detention, and the functioning of the institutions of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine within the south-eastern region of the country. The Office coordinates the activities of correctional colonies, remand prisons, correctional centres, enterprises of penal institutions, healthcare facilities of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine, as well as authorised probation bodies, ensuring the proper execution of the tasks and functions assigned to them.
The sphere of activity of the South-Eastern Interregional Office includes institutions and bodies of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine located in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, and Poltava regions.
The Office provides organisational, personnel, financial, legal, and material-technical support for the activities of subordinate institutions, and exercises control over compliance with legislation in the field of criminal sentence execution, the observance of human rights in places of confinement, the organisation of regime and security, medical provision, labour, and socio-educational work with convicts.
The activities of the Office have gained particular importance under martial law, when a significant part of the region's institutions were under the direct threat of shelling or were forced to evacuate convicts and staff.
The Office coordinates security measures, ensures the continuous functioning of the penitentiary system, and facilitates the implementation of state policy in the field of criminal sentence execution amidst wartime challenges.
