April Fools' Day in the Perevalsk Juvenile Colony
On 1 April 2009, on April Fools' Day, employees of the Leninsky district of Luhansk Centre for Social Services for Family, Children and Youth once again visited the Perevalsk Juvenile Colony.
Specialists of the Centre congratulated the children serving sentences and the staff of the Perevalsk Colony on April Fools' Day and wished that everything in their lives would turn out as well as possible.
The gift was a performance by the Luhansk KVN team ‘Children of Arbat’. The KVN team delighted the children with its entertainment programme and gave them a little joy and fun. Teenagers serving sentences and the staff watched the humorous programme prepared for them with great interest and even took part in it — they felt like real KVN participants and humourists. They were invited to participate in the famous KVN ‘warm-up’ contest.
After the concert programme ended, a preventive film ‘On the dangers of smoking’ was shown to the wards of the colony. A serious continuation was the extensive meeting conducted by specialists of the Leninsky CSSSFY for wards from among orphans and children deprived of parental care. Issues of receiving a one-time allowance upon reaching 18 years of age were discussed. The Leninsky Centre had prepared special handouts for this category of children: small brochures ‘Your pocket book’, which describe in detail the benefits for orphans upon admission, study, and employment. This information turned out to be relevant, as most of the children, after their release, intend to enter vocational and technical institutions to continue their studies in the specialty they obtained in the colony. During the meeting, the children received answers to all their questions of interest.
Social workers hope that this event not only gave the hearts of the children serving sentences a festive mood but also made them think about their lives.
