The Inaction of Certain Officials Provokes Inaction Among Prisoners
At the regular meeting of the Public Council under the administration of the Department for the Execution of Punishments in the Donetsk region, held on 29 July, the issue of creating a vocational school in the Mykytivka Correctional Colony was considered. The problem is that the department is ready to finance the purchase of equipment for such a school and carry out renovations. However, coordination is required with the Ministry of Education to confirm that it will establish this institution and fund the teachers' salaries. Yet, this is precisely what neither the departmental administration nor the Public Council has been able to achieve for several months. The regional education administration simply does not respond to requests. The Public Council decided to appeal to the Minister of Education with a strong recommendation to respond to the inquiries regarding this problem. After all, the inaction of officials contributes to the inaction of the prisoners in the aforementioned colony.
The meeting also reviewed information about events in that colony the day before—nine prisoners who were in the disciplinary isolation ward inflicted injuries upon themselves.
