Pryluky Juvenile Correction Colony
The state institution “Pryluky Juvenile Correction Colony” was a specialised penal institution for adolescent males sentenced to deprivation of liberty.
The primary purpose of its activities was the execution of criminal sentences, encompassing education, vocational training, and social, educational, and psychological work aimed at the resocialisation of juveniles.
Juvenile colonies possess a special legal status within the penal system, as their operations must be grounded in the principle of the best interests of the child, ensuring the right to education, medical care, the maintenance of family ties, and preparation for an independent life following release.
The Pryluky Juvenile Correction Colony has been visited on numerous occasions by representatives of the National Preventive Mechanism, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as international and Ukrainian human rights organisations.
During monitoring visits, assessments were conducted regarding conditions of detention, the provision of rights to education, medical care, and psychological support, the application of disciplinary measures, the realisation of the right to work, and other aspects concerning the observance of children’s rights in conditions of confinement.
Following these monitoring visits, recommendations were provided to align the institution’s activities with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the UN Beijing Rules, the European Prison Rules, and other international standards regarding the treatment of juveniles deprived of liberty.
As part of the optimisation of the network of institutions within the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine, the activities of the state institution “Pryluky Juvenile Correction Colony” have been terminated.
Currently, the institution does not carry out any activities related to the execution of criminal sentences.
