Balakliia Correctional Centre (No. 106)
The state institution "Balakliia Correctional Centre (No. 106)" was located in the city of Balakliia, Kharkiv region, and belonged to open-type institutions for the execution of sentences – correctional centres, in which persons sentenced to the restriction of liberty served their sentences.
Convicts lived in dormitories, had the opportunity to move around the territory of the institution without constant supervision, were engaged in paid labour, and under conditions determined by law, could work at enterprises outside the institution.
Following the start of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation, the territory of Balakliia was under temporary occupation from March until September 2022.
In connection with the hostilities and occupation, the functioning of the institution was suspended.
After the de-occupation of the city, it was discovered that the property complex had sustained significant damage, and the resumption of activities under security risk conditions proved impractical.
Within the framework of the reorganisation of the penitentiary system by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the activities of the state institution "Balakliia Correctional Centre (No. 106)" were optimised.
Today, the institution does not carry out the reception and detention of convicts, and the execution of punishment in the form of the restriction of liberty is provided by other correctional centres in Ukraine.
