Shostka Correctional Colony (No. 66)
The State Institution “Shostka Correctional Colony (No. 66)” was for many years part of the structure of the State Penal Service of Ukraine and ensured the execution of criminal sentences in the form of imprisonment in accordance with the requirements of Ukrainian legislation. The institution was located in the city of Shostka, Sumy region, and functioned as a correctional colony for the detention of convicted men.
The main areas of its activity were ensuring the regime of serving sentences, the organisation of convict labour, their professional training, general education, and the conduct of social and educational work aimed at resocialisation. Throughout its operation, the colony had a developed production and economic infrastructure, which allowed it to ensure the employment of convicts and the fulfilment of production orders.
The work of the institution’s enterprise was an important component of the colony’s functioning and contributed to the professional training of individuals serving sentences.
As part of the reform of the Ukrainian penal system and the optimisation of the network of penal institutions, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine made the decision to terminate the operations of the State Institution “Shostka Correctional Colony (No. 66)”.
Convicts were transferred to other institutions of the State Penal Service of Ukraine, and the performance of functions regarding the detention of convicts by the institution was ceased.
The optimisation of the colony’s operations was carried out within the framework of state policy aimed at increasing the efficiency of the penal system, reducing the costs of maintaining under-occupied institutions, and more rational use of state property.
As of today, the State Institution “Shostka Correctional Colony (No. 66)” does not carry out activities for its primary purpose.
Further use of the institution’s property complex is determined by decisions of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
