Poltava Correctional Centre (No. 136)
The State Institution “Poltava Correctional Centre (No. 136)” was part of the structure of the State Penal Service of Ukraine and ensured the execution of sentences in the form of restriction of liberty in accordance with the requirements of the Penal Code of Ukraine.
The institution functioned as an open-type correctional centre, in which convicts served sentences without isolation from society, being under the supervision of the administration.
In accordance with legislation, they were involved in paid labour, could work at enterprises of various forms of ownership, and participated in programmes of social and educational work, professional training, and resocialisation, which contributed to their preparation for a return to independent life after release.
The Poltava Correctional Centre played an important role in the execution of sentences not involving the isolation of convicts from society, implementing a modern approach to the execution of sentences in the form of restriction of liberty and ensuring a combination of control with the possibility of social adaptation for convicts.
As part of the reform of the Ukrainian penal system and the optimisation of the network of penal institutions, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine made the decision to terminate the operations of the State Institution “Poltava Correctional Centre (No. 136)”.
Convicts who were serving sentences were transferred to other institutions of the State Penal Service of Ukraine, and the performance of its main functions by the institution was ceased.
The optimisation of the institution’s operations was carried out within the framework of state policy aimed at more effective use of state property, the concentration of resources in active institutions, and the improvement of the organisation of the execution of criminal sentences.
As of today, the State Institution “Poltava Correctional Centre (No. 136)” does not carry out activities for its primary purpose.
Further use of the institution’s property complex is determined by relevant decisions of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
