Kazankivska Correctional Colony (No. 93)
The State Institution “Kazankivska Correctional Colony (No. 93)” is located in the village of Novodanylivka, Bashtanka district, Mykolaiv region, and is one of the few correctional facilities in Ukraine whose history is directly connected with the extraction and processing of natural stone.
The creation of the institution is linked to the development of the Novodanylivka granite deposit and the expansion of local stone-mining production. On 21 August 1962, the Novodanylivka stone-crushing plant was transferred from the system of the Kherson Council of National Economy to the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Ukrainian SSR, after which a correctional labour institution was organised on its basis.
The first years of activity were devoted to creating the necessary infrastructure for the institution's functioning. By the end of 1964, the construction of the main facilities of the residential zone, the territory of which was divided into four separate sectors, was completed. At the same time, production capacities related to granite extraction and processing were developed.
In the following decades, the colony was actively expanded. In 1982–1983, a four-storey residential building for the institution's staff was put into operation, and the Novodanylivka secondary school was opened, which became an important stage in the development of the village's and institution's social infrastructure.
The history of the colony is inextricably linked to production activity. The main focus of the institution's enterprise became the extraction and processing of granite from the Novodanylivka deposit. For many years, building stone, facing materials, monuments, kerbs, paving elements, and other products from natural granite were produced here and supplied to various regions of Ukraine.
In 1998, within the framework of reforming the criminal-executive system of Ukraine and transferring the security functions of correctional facilities from the internal troops to the State Department of Ukraine for the Execution of Sentences, the property and personnel of the internal troops units that provided security for the colony were transferred to the institution.
In accordance with the order of the State Department of Ukraine for the Execution of Sentences dated 29 November 1999, the institution received its current name — Kazankivska Correctional Colony (No. 93).
Based on the results of the accreditation conducted in 2003, the colony was classified as a medium-security institution for men sentenced to imprisonment for a fixed term who had previously served a sentence involving deprivation of liberty. The institution also operates a social rehabilitation unit.
Today, the Kazankivska Correctional Colony (No. 93) remains one of the best-known production institutions in the Ukrainian penitentiary system, maintaining its specialisation in the field of natural stone extraction and processing. The institution's enterprise continues to manufacture a wide range of products from granite of the Novodanylivka deposit, combining production activity with the tasks of re-socialisation and vocational training of convicts.
Over the years, the institution has been headed by leaders of the Mykolaiv region's criminal-executive system, who ensured the development of the production complex, social infrastructure, and the improvement of conditions for the convicts.
Currently, the head of the institution is Oleksandr Yuriyovych SAVENKO.
