Sofiivska Correctional Colony (No. 55)

The State Institution “Sofiivska Correctional Colony (No. 55)” was part of the structure of the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine and ensured the enforcement of sentences in the form of deprivation of liberty in accordance with the requirements of the criminal-executive legislation of Ukraine.

The institution was located in the city of Vilniansk, Zaporizhzhia region. Following the start of the full-scale armed aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the significant deterioration of the security situation in the region, it became necessary to take measures to ensure the safety of convicts and the staff of the institution.

In 2022, convicts were evacuated from the State Institution “Sofiivska Correctional Colony (No. 55)” to other institutions of the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine.

Evacuation measures were carried out with the aim of protecting the life and health of persons serving sentences under the conditions of martial law.

After the evacuation of the convicts, the institution effectively ceased performing functions related to their detention. Further use of the property complex and the prospects for resuming the activities of the institution depend on the security situation and the decisions of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

Thus, the State Institution “Sofiivska Correctional Colony (No. 55)” belongs to the institutions of the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine from which, in 2022, convicts were evacuated in connection with hostilities.
